WMR: Voice Cursor UI

2015 Q3  |  Microsoft  |  Concept, Visual Design

Like today's operating systems, Microsoft's Mixed Reality utilizes a cursor with 'eye-gaze' to interact with objects in virtual space. This exploratory concept focuses on expanding the behavior and capabilities of the existing cursor via audio input with human speech. After a quick and open-ended brainstorming session, the options were narrowed down to two main directions:

Iconic Mic
This visual direction focused on the simplicity of the well known microphone icon and how we can utilize the icon with simple shapes with clarity.

Exploring Cortana Evolved
Inspired from the 'iconic mic' visual direction and initial explorations, we were curious on how far we could push the microphone icon utilizing Cortana's brand while keeping it familiar. This exploration focused on how we could evolve the feel of Cortana to feel more vibrant and expressive.
